Online Services for the 2021-2022 Academic Year:  When writers make an appointment with the USF Writing Center, they will be asked to select between three different types of appointments.

Face-to-Face Appointments: Our primary and preferred means of working with writers, face-to-face appointments offer opportunities for fuller and more effective communication while discussing the writing process and a particular text. Face-to-face appointments are held in the USF Writing Center, located in the lower level of Mears Library.  While writers can simply drop in to the writing center on a first-come, first-served basis, we recommend making an appointment in order to ensure an appointment at a particular time.

eTutoring Appointments: If a writer selects eTutoring, the bottom of the appointment form will provide space to upload up to three (3) documents.  Typically, we ask that writers upload two (2) documents: a copy of the assignment sheet and a draft of the paper. Once a peer consultant has responded to the paper, the writer will receive an email with the feedback file attached.

Online Appointments:  If a writer selects an online appointment, the writer should log back in this website five to ten minutes before the start of the appointment.  Click on the appointment, and then click on the link that reads “Start or Join Online Consultation.”  The writer will then be able to converse with a peer consultant in real time through audio and video.  The conferencing platform also includes a chat feature and a whiteboard feature.

Both online appointments and eTutoring appointments are often new to both students and the peer consultants in the USF Writing Center. If a face-to-face conference is impossible or undesirable, we ask you to review the resources below in order to learn more about the logistics of both eTutoring and online conferencing, as each type of appointment has distinct strengths and limitations. We suggest that you watch the videos first and then use the handouts as a guide through the process.
